It took a hurricane in Southern California to make me sacrifice the sleep necessary to binge the entire Child’s Play and Chucky franchise in a single weekenda crucial part of. The result is a movie that makes you laugh and scream, sometimes within the same scene. The reason Chucky looks so bad in certain shots of the trailer is because it is actually the scarred doll digitally altered to look unscarred. Childs Play, which will mark the eighth entry into the long-running franchise, is directed by Lars Klevberg ( Polaroid) from a script by Tyler Burton Smith ( Kung Fury 2 ). Chucky spouts of lot of creepy one liners, but there are also some funny lines of dialogue from the other characters. There was a backlash against the doll’s appearance after the trailer was released, but they were holding off revealing the scarred look until its release, which was a surprise that actually worked. In Curse it at least makes a sort of sense because that film is about tying all the loose ends of the franchise together, so it’s incredibly appropriate to have both unscarred and scarred Chucky in that one. Chucky’s appearance has no real bearing on Seed of Chucky. What I don’t really understand is why the look continued after that movie, because it is sort of a one-off joke.
